Kirundo: Sensitization of religious and administrative leaders on parent-child communication in Gitobe

In order to give the community the correct information on the sexual and reproductive health of teenagers and youth, Service Yezu Mwiza (SYM) in the implementation of the Joint Program (JP) organized a sensitization workshop on parent-child communication to religious and administrative leaders.

That workshop, led by the head of the Joint Program in Kirundo province, took place from 13th to 14th of August 2019 in one of the halls of Gitobe Technical High School. It aimed to involve religious leaders and administrators in raising community awareness of reproductive sexual health with a focus on parent-child communication.

Various religious communities were represented in this workshop, including CMCI Church of Butahana, Seventh-day Adventist of Bugwana, Pentecost of Gitobe Commune, Burwana Parish Catholic, Islam of Gitobe Commune, Orthodox of Gitobe Commune, Morave from Butihinda, Anglican from Bigombo, Foursquare from Gitobe commune.
The administrative ones also did not miss the appointment: 8 representatives of the hills of Gihinga, Butihinda, Bugwana, Bucana, Tonga, Santunda, Kivumu and Cumba were present in that workshop.

During that sensitization workshop, the participants were able to learn, with image boxes, the best method to start a conversation with teenagers and young people.
Working session in groups
After the group work, the participants made the presentations and each group gave their opinion on the presentations. The sharing of the work of different groups showed that all the participants understood the importance of integrating into the households the dialogues on subjects of sexual and reproductive health of teenagers and youth.

At the end of the training, Religious Leaders and Hill Chiefs made the commitment to contribute to collective change through the monitoring of their children's education and the awareness of other parents of the community on the proper way of communication between parent-child on the Sexual and reproductive health.
