SYM: Viral load sampling Campaign at Service Yezu Mwiza Office and Ruziba

Posted on 25/08/2019 - Category: RAFG Activity ...

As part of the implementation of the RAFG Activity project, Service Yezu Mwiza organized, on August 08, 2019, a campaign to collect the viral load of PLHIV in need. This activity meets one of the objectives of WHO. According to this organization, 95% of patients on ARV therapy must have an undetectable viral load after 6 months of treatment.

Although we observe an improvement compared to the rate of indefectibility (90%), accessibility to this examination remains to be reinforced (78%). Thus the SYM organized a campaign to reach those who, for one reason or another, were not taken. However, viral load is a very crucial consideration in monitoring patients on ARV therapy. It makes it possible to detect a possible failure of the treatment and consequently to guide the management.

It should be noted that patients with undetectable viral load do not infect HIV with their sexual partners and especially do not transmit the virus to their fetuses during pregnancy or to their babies during childbirth and breastfeeding. This makes it possible to block the chain of transmission.

viral load sampling campaign at SYM and Ruziba Activities began with a treatment adherence strengthening session for recipients with detectable viral load and testimonials from recipients with undetectable viral loads.
"In 2017 I had a detectable viral load but thanks to the therapeutic education; in 2018, the result changed afterwards and I come for the appointment of 2019 "testified one of the beneficiaries.
It should be noted that the Ruziba site included the beneficiaries of Ruziba, Kabezi, Mutumba and Gitaza; and that of the SYM office of Kiriri, Buterere, Maramvya, Gatumba and Buhonga.
"We are very pleased because among the 130 people expected we were able to collect 113 patients whereas usually we could have more than 20 patients to be taken per day". Added the manager of this campaign
