As part of capacity building, the Direction of Service Yezu Mwiza (SYM), on August 06, 2019, held a discussion session with its staff to raise awareness about good governance and accountability in resource management.
SYM, in the framework of the collaboration with Care International, invited Jean Bosco NTIRIVAMUNDA, coordinator of the resource management and compliance service at Care International, who led this session to share his experience in resource management.
In a brief presentation, the speaker defined good governance as a question of behavior and attitude towards common goods of interest, ensuring the existence of laws and regulations and appropriate mechanisms for their development. It’s also a learning to adopt responsible practices (actions) and attitudes towards goods of common interests.
He also demonstrated that accountability is when empowered people are predisposed to giving accounts of their actions and decisions.
Participants tried to internalize these concepts in SYM, and learned that poor resource management can have adverse effects on the entire organization. They also understood that there is an urgent need to change their behavior and attitudes in order to live the proper management of the commons and the smooth running of the Yezu Mwiza Service.
At the end of the session, the Director warmly thanked the speaker, but also all the staff present in this session for his patience, and also for listening to the speaker. He also asked everyone to put into practice what he learned from this session. All SYM staff were pleased with the free advice they had just received and asked that such exchange sessions be held from time to time to continue to learn more in order to better serve others.
Some of them gave their opinions on the achievements of the session :
"With this session, I especially understood that we are all indebted to each other in an institution, for example, if I delay in giving a report of activity, it can hinder the work of other colleagues who need this document, which is not a good thing in an organization.
