The time of Lent is a moment of permanent conversion, where Christians want to refocus their lives on Christ. It is within this framework that the SYM organized a recollection for its staff that took place at the Kiriri Jesuit Spiritual Center on April 13, 2019.
The preacher of the day, Father Evariste NYABENDA SJ, developed the theme on the importance and meaning of Passover in the life of every Christian, and that everyone should always ask this question "What does Passover mean in my life? He pointed out that the true Passover is liberation, Christ liberates us from sin, by his blood all humanity has been saved.
Passover comes from the word of the Hebrew Pesach, which contains the meaning of passage. Passage of the Hebrew people from servitude to freedom, passage through the waters of the Red Sea, passage of Jesus through suffering, death, to life.
The Gospel of John presents the work of salvation accomplished by Jesus Christ as a Passover, the passage that Jesus fulfills from this world to the father, the passage from death to life: John 13: 1: "Before the Passover Feast Jesus, knowing that his time had come to pass from this world to his Father, having loved his own who were in the world, loved them until the end. br> The hour of Jesus is the time of the Passover, the hour of the new covenant, the wedding of the Lamb.
In his teaching, the preacher has shown that for the Passover before Jesus Christ, the animal blood was used as a sacrifice, indeed, under the law, the blood of the bulls and goats temporarily covered the sin. Whenever the people sinned, it offered the appropriate sacrifice that covered sin, and this law was a temporary measure intended to show sin and the inability of man to do what God required. (Gal 3: 24-25). While with the Passover of Jesus, he gave his own blood as the sacrifice of all mankind. Christ is the perfect Lamb immolated before the foundation of the world (1 Pie 1: 19-21)
To conclude he also gave a brief description of sin as being:
The Word of God shows us that Christ frees us from tradition: When the Pharisees ask Jesus why his disciples do what their law does not allow on the Sabbath day, Jesus answered in Mark 2: 27 "The Sabbath was made for man, man was not made for the Sabbath ".
that beautiful day continued with a time of meditation where the preacher asked everyone to meditate on Christ's place in his life, and to close, there was sharing in small groups of 6 people each of which retained from the given teaching.
This recollection was followed by the sacrament of confession. It ended with a Eucharistic celebration presided over by Father Vedaste NKESHIMANA SJ, Executive Director of the Yezu Mwiza Service.
We thank God for this time of spiritual renewal that He has allowed us to live! said one of the participants in this recollection.
