Medical biology laboratories play an essential role in clinical decision-making by providing physicians with information that can assist in the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and management of diseases. In most African countries, the quality of these infrastructures is still in its infancy, hence the urgent need to strengthen laboratory systems and their services.
It is within this framework that the Ministry of Public Health and the Fight against AIDS (MSPLS) through its Directorate of Medical Biology (LBM) with the technical and financial support of FHI 360, organized from August 9 to 13, 2021, a mentoring activity for 13 laboratories throughout the country to support them in the quality management process
.The main objective of this activity is to advise, support and assist these medical laboratories through mentoring in the gradual and successful implementation of quality management systems that meet the international standard ISO 15189 which governs medical biology activities.
One of the members of the laboratory staff who attended this activity gave an update on the importance of this mentoring: "This mentoring was of crucial importance firstly, for Service Yezu Mwiza which, during this activity, was able to put in place a plan to improve the quality of the infrastructure and analyses for its laboratory in order to obtain accreditation according to international standards; secondly, for us laboratory technicians, the knowledge acquired will help us to raise the level of services offered in our laboratory in terms of quality requirements", Célestin NITANGA, laboratory technician at SYM.
