Ceremonies marking the end of the activities of the Nurem project at SYM

Service Yezu Mwiza proceeded to the closing ceremonies of the activities of the Nurem Project, a project implemented with funding from the Jesuit Province of Nuremberg in Germany. This project trained and supported vulnerable beneficiaries of SYM, in the establishment and management of Income Generating Activities (IGAs).

Took part in these festivities, different personalities including the Regional Father of Rwanda-Burundi, Fabien GASIGWA Sj; the governor of the province of Bujumbura, Mr. Désiré NSENGIYUMVA, to name only that; as well as the beneficiaries of the Nurem project.

SYM introduced this project through training for beneficiaries of different cohorts, on how to effectively undertake and manage different IGAs.

The celebration of this day began with the welcoming speech of the Executive Director of SYM, Father Védaste NKESHIMANA, Sj; thanking all the guests for their presence. Father GASIGWA Sj, in his intervention did not fail to thank SYM for having trained these beneficiaries on how to undertake and better manage their IGA, knowledge that will allow them to be self-sufficient in their daily needs. said. He also congratulated the beneficiaries for having followed with interest all the advice given to them by SYM, to finally call on them to work more in order to overcome poverty.

These IGAs were made up of: small livestock rearing, agriculture and trade. The project also introduced kitchen gardens which enabled beneficiaries to improve their diet.

The governor of BUJUMBURA province, Mr. Désiré, in turn, praised the beneficial activities that SYM has carried out with the beneficiaries of his province. He then urged them to take their hands out of their pockets and work hard, to develop themselves and the government will also take part, he concluded.

The activities ended with the presentation of certificates of merit to the beneficiaries of the project who stood out among others in the good management of their IGAs.

The beneficiaries, for their part, expressed their intense joy by thanking the SYM for continuing to assist them. Even if the project ends, said one of the beneficiaries, continue to watch over our development.

Note that the Nurem project has granted microcredits for the creation of IGAs to more than 450 households since 2018, including 263 households in the 2020-2021 year.
