Service Yezu Mwiza in its quest for improving the living conditions of its vulnerable beneficiaries, supports over 477 families, encouraging them to join income-generating activities so that in the days to come they can be self-sufficient.
We are at Mayuyu in the province of Bujumbura, where we have found a group of beneficiaries harvesting their potato field. A group belonging to the second cohort of 263 families who have benefited from the microcredits of the Nurem project implemented by Service Yezu Mwiza in favour of its beneficiaries. They tell us about the beginning of their micro-project: “After having followed trainings given by a team of Service Yezu Mwiza on the implementation and management of micro-projects through the Nurem project, we quickly got to work thanks to the support of the SYM which granted us microcredits. As we are in a region where potato cultivation is very profitable, we rented a plot of cultivable land to start our micro-project. We had planted potatoes and peas there; today, 4 months later, we are at harvest time. We are thrilled to have joined the Nurem project because we have already tasted on the fruits of our efforts. A few days ago, we were harvesting the peas. Now it is the turn of the potatoes. The harvest was not good enough as we had hoped, but its income is very helpful to us”.
Some beneficiaries of the first cohort have far exceeded the expected results. This is the case of the group of 3 beneficiaries, who keep goats in Gatumba which we recently visited, testifying that they started with only two goats and that today they are 15.
Beneficiaries rejoicing the level reached in their IGAs
“Joining the IGAs of the Nurem project has been a blessing for our group. When we started the income-generating activities, Service Yezu Mwiza gave us two goats through the project. We took care of it and today we have 15 goats, soon we hope to buy a cow. SYM has given us back the dignity and consideration that we had lost. Currently in our community, we are no longer seen as the vulnerable people we used to be, but as people who have been successful in life. This gives us pride and makes us more ambitious”.
The Nurem project is implemented in different localities of Service Yezu Mwiza area to enable its vulnerable beneficiaries to have a better life.
