Celebration of International Women’s Day, 2021 edition

Posted on 08/04/2021 - Category: Cérémonie SYM ...

Every year, the entire world celebrates International Women’s Rights Day. It is a day highlighting the fight for women’s rights and in particular for the reduction of gender inequalities.

Women working at Service Yezu Mwiza (SYM) joined other women from around the world in general, and those from Burundi in particular to celebrate this day, under the national theme: “Women’s leadership, source of inclusive development” .

Compassion is one of the values of SYM, and it is in this perspective that the women who work in this organization in the presence of the Executive Director and other officials in this organization began this day by distributing food to a few vulnerable women, beneficiaries of SYM.

According to Mrs Consolate KANYANA, representative of women at SYM: “This gesture, however small it may be, comes from the bottom of the heart of each of the women working at SYM. For us, this day is an opportunity to share, because all women, regardless of their situation, should have the opportunity to celebrate it, including the most vulnerable. That is why we have thought of these vulnerable women whom we meet every day so that they can have something to eat, at least for today “
She continued by thanking the authorities of Service Yezu Mwiza, who have placed their trust in the women of the organization, by appointing them to high responsibility positions. “This shows that not only are we capable, but that we can exercise the same functions as men on an equal footing, therefore is a need for being together and create more dignified and egalitarian living conditions for all.”

Celebration of International Women's Day at Service Yezu Mwiza Father Védaste NKESHIMANA, SJ, Executive Director of SYM, urged the women of SYM to devote themselves to all their activities. So he will add: “March 8th is a day reminding you that you are capable at all levels and especially in leadership. I invite you to always move forward by putting a lot of effort into your daily tasks. Always be innovative and efficient wherever you are, especially at SYM and in your communities. Thus we will know how to say that the woman is capable, by relying on the acts which you would have accomplished.”
Let’s remember that this day comes from the history of feminist struggles on the European and American continents.
The ceremonies ended in a festive atmosphere.
