Official launch of Strategic Plan 2021-2025 and exchange of greetings to Service Yezu Mwiza

Under the patronage of the Ministry of Public Health and the Fight against AIDS (MSPLS), Service Yezu Mwiza officially launched its strategic plan 2021-2025 on January 29, 2021 at Royal Palace Hotel.

This strategic plan 2021-2025 is a roadmap that will define individual and collective actions for the next 5 years and specifies the main orientations and priority actions that Service Yezu Mwiza is committed to carry out as part of its missions of global health care.

Present at these ceremonies were the representative of Ministry of Public Health and the Fight against AIDS; the representative of Ministry of the Interior, Community Development and Public Security; the representative of the Minister at the Ministry of National Solidarity, Social Affairs, Human Rights and Gender; the representative of UNAIDS in Burundi; and MSPLS managers; Medical Directors of the Health Provinces of Bujumbura and Bujumbura Mairie; Medical Directors of the Health Districts; representatives of civil society organizations working in the health sector; the representative of JRS; technical and financial partners of SYM; SYM staff; representatives of SYM beneficiaries; members of the Executive Committee of SYM as well as other invited friends of SYM.

Father Védaste NKESHIMANA SJ, Executive Director of Service Yezu Mwiza, in welcoming the guests, began his speech with a small prayer imploring the Almighty to bless all the exchanges that will take place during this ceremony: "On behalf of the members and staff of SYM, I would like to receive you and express my gratitude for what you have already done for Service Yezu Mwiza and for what we hope you will do after these exchanges so that the strategic plan that we are solemnly launching today can be realized; I also hope that the exchanges we will have will help us advance in the missions that we have committed ourselves to accomplish. "he concluded.

Thus, this Strategic Plan is based on six objectives: To contribute to the reduction of new HIV/STI/TB infections through community-based prevention with the integration of SRH into the Burundian population by the end of 2025; To offer services for prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV to 240 women of childbearing age and their children each year by 2025; To provide adequate care to 2% of the national active population, i.e., 1,440 PLHIV, with easy access to care and medical services; Contribute to reducing the impact of HIV/TB and the determinants of vulnerability among 2% of the national active population, i.e. 1,440 PLHIV, 2,915 OVC and 250 of the most needy households through psychosocial, spiritual and economic care by the end of 2025; Strengthen accessibility to other preventive and curative health services for the beneficiaries of Service Yezu Mwiza and the population in its intervention area; improve coordination, program management and monitoring-evaluation of Service Yezu Mwiza activities by the end of 2025.

In his speech at the official launch of SYM's 2021-2025 strategic plan, the MSPLS representative, Dr. Jean Georges BUKUBO, Technical Director of the SEP/CNLS, stated that Service Yezu Mwiza has made a significant contribution to the reduction of new infections, and has also integrated reproductive health services into its activities. He praised the important services provided by SYM in the previous year in the fight against HIV and Tuberculosis.

He mentioned that the fight against AIDS remains a major challenge to this day, particularly in terms of improving PMTCT services, but also improving viral load: "I invite you to continue to maintain and improve the results already achieved, but also to implement other new strategies aimed at eliminating HIV by 2030. We therefore encourage you for the operationalization of the new strategic plan 2021-2025 and we reiterate our unwavering support from the Burundian government, we will always be at your side. I would also like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Happy New Year 2021. "he concluded.

As for the representative of the Ministry of National Solidarity, Social Affairs, Human Rights and Gender, after his words of thanks to SYM management for organizing these ceremonies, he conveyed the warm greetings of his Excellency the Minister, who was prevented at the last minute despite her full commitment to support the activities of SYM.
He then pointed out that with regard to the objectives contained in that strategic plan, the fact that SYM carries out actions to care for Orphans and other Vulnerable Children (OVCs), building houses for vulnerable groups and ensuring the socio-economic promotion of poor communities; this contributes to the achievement of the results assigned by the Burundian government "Reta-Nkozi, Reta-Mvyeyi" to the Ministry of National Solidarity, Social Affairs, Human Rights and Gender.
"The Ministry would like to reiterate its commitment to remain at SYM's side in the implementation of its Strategic Plan 2021-2025. "he added.
