Service Yezu Mwiza, with the support of the Segal Family Foundation, organized from Monday, June 22, 2020, at the sites of Mutumba, Kiriri, Gatumba and at the headquarters of SYM, a series of awareness training sessions on barrier gestures for 165 community health workers.
The program’s menu included the implementation of infection control procedures, identification and referral of suspected cases of COVID-19.
The trained health workers will be used for a broad public awareness campaign on good washing practices and hygiene procedures to stop the spread of the virus.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 415374 cases of Covid-19 of which 10275 deaths are confirmed in Africa as of July 2, 2020 and continue to grow. The organization indicates to countries the priority areas: protecting health workers, involving communities to protect those most at risk, and helping vulnerable countries contain the infection.
During the same period, 170 cases of COVID-19 were confirmed by the Government of Burundi, including 1 death. Following this unprecedented health crisis, the two institutions invite every citizen and community to adopt preventive measures to stop the spread of the virus.
