SYM: Nutritional assistance to beneficiaries of Gatumba and Kinyinya

Posted on 29/05/2020 - Category: Actualité du SYM ...

The torrential rains that fell on the province of Bujumbura caused the overflow of the river rusizi which destroyed thousands of houses, also taking away fields of crops. 2 sites (Gatumba and Kinyinya) among the 16 sites where SYM intervenes through its mobile clinic were affected by that disaster making homeless people. It is in that context that Service Yezu Mwiza has, on 21 May 2020, distributed food to 100 beneficiaries from these two localities.

The beneficiaries live in precarious conditions and vulnerability because of their disease have been doubly affected by this flood. They sleep outside and have no food.
SYM had encouraged beneficiaries to join income-generating activities in order to meet the needs of their families without waiting for outside help, and their activities were at a pleasing stage, that disaster is taking everything away, making them even more vulnerable than before. What to do with the force of nature? No one expected a disaster of this magnitude:

In his message to the beneficiaries of Gatumba and Kinyinya, the Executive Director of Service Yezu Mwiza, Father Védaste NKESHIMANA SJ, points out that SYM is so concerned about their situation because no one can have good health without food " As its name indicates (Yezu Mwiza = Good Jesus) has compassion and love, it is for this reason that Service Yezu Mwiza has thought of you in these hard times to help as much as it can, it is not much but it is what we have been able to have for the moment and we will continue to look for”
. “We thank you very much for thinking of us, this help will be really useful to us because the flood took everything from us, there are among us those to whom, service Yezu Mwiza had given small capital in IGAs, our fields of amaranth were all taken away, our household goods, our homes destroyed, we have nothing left, flood has taken everything away” deplores Odette one of the beneficiaries of Kinyinya site.
Note that All 100 beneficiaries in Gatumba and Kinyinya received five kilograms of rice and five kilograms of beans.
