SYM: International Women’s Rights Day

Posted on 13/03/2020 - Category: Cérémonie SYM ...

The International Women's Day celebrated on March 08, 2020 all over the world with the theme "Stand up for women's rights", was celebrated at Service Yezu Mwiza as well as all over the country(Burundi), on March 09, 2020 under the theme "Let us all stand up for the realization of women's rights".

For the women working in Service Yezu Mwiza, the ceremonies for this day took place at the Nobel Bar where the women shared a drink in a festive atmosphere. The festivities began with a small prayer of thanksgiving led by the chairman of SYM executive council, Father Fidèle INGIYIMBERE, SJ.

In her speech, Mrs. KANYANA consolate, on behalf of all the women of SYM, thanked Service Yezu Mwiza for the step already taken in the respect of women's rights and then thanked the Jesuits who were present as well as the men working in SYM who came to support them in this celebration. This shows that they are not alone in the quest for their rights but that together with men they can build an equitable world.
She invites other women to stop self-discriminating and to look in the same direction by demanding their rights. “Women are the mainstay of family and country development in general. That is why if women do not feel fulfilled, the whole country cannot have sustainable development. It is for this reason that we must no longer think that the woman cannot hold key positions. it is our right and our duty to participate in the development of our country, I invite all women all over the world not to underestimate themselves and challenge themselves to take up positions that previously women did not think possible to hold, we are proud of the 30% we have already achieved, but we aspire to something greater because we are capable of it” she added as she finished her speech.

As for Father Fidèle INGIYIMBERE SJ, he, on his behalf, on behalf of the executive council he represents and on behalf of all the Jesuits of Burundi, his wish for a happy feast for all the women of Burundi, but especially for those of SYM: “As the Women’s Representative so aptly stated in her speech, women’s rights at the SYM are respected, we are proud that SYM is a place where a woman has rights, because since the 1960s, the Jesuits have put forward a faith that does justice"
. He ended his speech with the word of God taken from the Gospel Matthew 5:15, “Neither do people light a lamp, and put it under a bowl, instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.” Urging all women of the SYM to ensure that these women’s rights that exist at the SYM are as visible in the community it serves, especially for those who need it most, to share these benefits in order to make SYM and the Jesuits known, all this for the greatest glory of God.

"March 8th for me is not just a day to celebrate, but to come together to think equitably, to exchange ideas in order to build something that will be seen as the work of women in honor of this day and that will serve for the development of society in general and that of women in particular. We want an equitable world, without any discrimination, where our young girls will be proud of us," says Mrs. Francine Nurse at SYM.
Before the ceremonies, women who work at SYM gave food to some vulnerable women so that they too could join other women in celebrating the day by having enough to eat.

It should be noted the Executive Director of Service, Yezu Mwiza, Father Vedaste NKESHIMANA SJ, could not participate in the celebration because he was on a working retreat in Cibitoke province, with the technical team of PNILT, on the TB control guidelines 2020 edition.
