Service Yezu Mwiza (SYM) executes the FHI 360 RAFG Activity project which is spread over 5 years (2018-2022). The goal of the project is to scale up antiretroviral treatment services for people living with HIV using the integrated community-based approach.
Indeed, the HIV/AIDS pandemic is a public health problem in Burundi. Although national seroprevalence is low, it remains very high among some population groups, including sex workers, LGBT people,...
The search for HIV-positive people who ignore each other to block the transmission chain remains a concern. SYM in partnership with other stakeholders is making a significant contribution to achieving the elimination of this infection desired by 2030 in accordance with WHO objectives.

“We welcome the achievements during FY 2019 already closed with the month of September. We have made progress compared to FY 2018. Some results are worth mentioning. The active queue has increased from 997 to 1034, 99.9% of our patients are on ARVs, access to viral load from 65% to 87%, 92.7% of our patients have an undetectable Viral load and therefore do not transmit HIV, 81% of patients eligible for the new TLD molecule have been switched". Told us with the project manager.
FY 2020 looks like it will be a large area to clear. However, in addition to Bujumbura province, SYM will expand its HIV care interventions in Gitega and Rumonge provinces. We intend to capitalize on the experience gained during the 2 years of project implementation to produce good results in these provinces.
