Distribution of 60 goats to associations of people affected by leprosy

In order to improve the socio-economic conditions of people affected by leprosy, Service Yezu Mwiza, in collaboration with Action Damien, distributed 60 goats to 4 associations of BUYENGERO, MUYANGE, GIHARO and NYAMITANGA on September 2019.

People affected by leprosy are physically vulnerable and often face unnamed stigma and discrimination. As agreed in the initial assessment, a phased approach was taken into account to start income-generating activities that are less costly and less risky until association members build a solid foundation of trust and credibility in management of their associations and micro-projects.

Distribution of goats to members of associations of people affected by leprosy All four associations: "Amagara meza arakenewe kuri twese" from Buyengero, "Turwanye indwara y'imibembe n'igituntu" from Muyange in Nyanza-lac, " Tujehamwe Twiyungunganye Twitezimbere " from Giharo and " Dushigikire abagwaye imibembe " from Nyamitanga received 15 goats each

The members of those associations were delighted with this support and warmly thanked the SERVICE YEZU MWIZA and ACTION DAMIEN especially for their daily support and guidance. They promised to take care of this donation so that in the near future, when these goats multiply, they can in turn give a goat to the neighbours and so on until each member has their own goat, and thus achieve the main objective of increasing household income or even self-sufficiency.

That activity will have the following impact: ensure the sustainability of the action because other beneficiaries will have goats when they will give birth; strengthen community links because they will breed together but also reduce the risk of external dependence.
