Project coordination, a chess game! In a chess game, the player bets on the protection of his King while trying to inflict a checkmate on his opponent. The rook, knight, bishop, pawn and queen, and of course the king itself, are each assigned a role in order to achieve the common goal of protecting the king. The player's role is to use his genius to set up the strategic combinations that will lead to victory. This is how I interpret the coordination of projects and programs at Service Yezu Mwiza. The King is the beneficiary... a beneficiary who comes in many forms: a newborn, a kid starting school, a teenager, a young professional fresh out of university, a young girl-mother who didn't have the chance to continue her education, a father/mother who discovers he is HIV-positive in his 40s, etc. The other pieces of the chessboard are the different projects and activities that are being put in place to enable Service Yezu Mwiza to "walk with the poor and vulnerable whose dignity has been wounded; and to contribute to the creation of a future of hope", as recommended by the Jesuit Universal Apostolic Preferences. Many projects, one goal!
